Bi-directional Flow Train A&B Shutdown
Client: Egypt Gas Co.
Methods: RT, PT, UT, UTT, PAUT, MT
During this critical shutdown for Egypt Gas Co., Synergy provided advanced NDT coverage for bi-directional flow systems. These systems are subject to unique fatigue patterns due to reversing pressures, making comprehensive structural validation mandatory before restarting operations.
The Technical Edge:
We utilized a sophisticated inspection matrix to ensure the integrity of all tie-ins and existing infrastructure within a narrow shutdown window:
* Advanced Volumetric Testing (PAUT & UT): Deployed Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) to gain high-resolution, cross-sectional views of welds. This allowed for rapid, precise detection of internal flaws that conventional methods might miss in complex geometries.
* Surface & Sub-surface Integrity (MT & PT): Used Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) to identify surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic welds, complemented by Penetrant Testing (PT) for non-ferrous components.
* Internal Validation (RT): Conducted Radiographic Testing to provide definitive volumetric certification for new weld joints.
* Wall Loss Monitoring (UTT): Performed Ultrasonic Thickness Testing to map erosion and corrosion, specifically in high-turbulence zones near flow-reversal points.
The Result:
By integrating PAUT with traditional methods like MT and RT, Synergy delivered a total integrity profile in record time. This allowed Egypt Gas Co. to resume operations with full confidence in the system's ability to handle bi-directional stresses, significantly reducing the risk of future fatigue-related failures.
